Capturing Honesty.

Why, oh why is it so difficult to take smiling, happy photographs of your own child? I have no clue. It's a supernatural phenomenon perhaps. Maybe it's because familiarity does indeed breed contempt, or at least irritation on occasion. Take comfort, friends. It happens to me too. All the expensive photo gear (and knowledge of how to use it) could not get me a smile from my son today. In fact, even jelly beans left over from the Easter Bunny couldn't do it. Nope, he wasn't having any of it today....just like most any other time I ask if I can take his picture. This is the best of the few I was able to sneak in. I love it. It's him....as he is now. And capturing his essence in this moment is more important to me than the cheese face grin. The moral of the story: find beauty in the everyday glances, the sour faces, the sadness, the smiles as well as the frowns. It's there...honestly.

the only good one

That is so true. I like a little "honesty". And not every beautiful picture has a smile. This one is perfect just the way it is.

I love this, Jenny. And, more and more, I'm preferring pics like these of Jacob rather than the big cheesy grin.
He's such a handsome guy!
